Accuracy of noninvasive haemoglobin measurement by pulse oximetry depends on the type of infusion fluid

چکیده
Context Measurement of blood haemoglobin (Hb) concentration by pulse oximetry (SpHb) could be of value to determine when erythrocytes should be transfused during surgery, but the effect of infusion fluids on the results is unclear. Objective To study the effect of crystalloid and colloid fluid on the accuracy (bias) and precision of SpHb to indicate the venous Hb concentration in volunteers. Design Open interventional crossover study.

Automated critical care systems for en route care will rely heavily on noninvasive continuous monitoring. It has been reported that noninvasive assessment of blood hemoglobin via CO-oximetry (SpHb) assessed by spot measurements lacks sufficient accuracy for clinical decision making in trauma patients. However, the precision and utility of trending of continuous hemoglobin have not been evaluate...
متن کاملInvasive versus noninvasive hemoglobin measurement by pulse CO-Oximeter in neonates admitted to NICU
Background Total haemoglobin measurement (tHb) is one of the most commonly performed laboratory tests in patients admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Non invasive haemoglobin measurement is possible. In neonates this method can reduce iatrogenic blood loss. Studies performed in adults to compare haemoglobin (Hb) obtained with the use of non-invasive Hb monitor and laboratory me...
متن کاملNoninvasive detection of bilirubin using pulsatile absorption.
Bilirubin, the yellow substance usually responsible for neonatal jaundice, is currently monitored invasively or by observing/measuring skin colour. This paper investigates the feasibility of monitoring serum bilirubin concentration using light absorbance in a similar fashion to pulse oximetry. The light absorbance of bilirubin is shown to be sufficiently different to haemoglobin to in theory al...

Trauma related haemorrhagic anaemia is rarely diagnosed by physical examination alone but typically includes measurement of blood haemoglobin, one of the most frequently ordered laboratory tests. Recently, noninvasive technologies have been developed that allow haemoglobin to be measured immediately without the need for intravenous access or having to take venous, arterial, or capillary blood. ...
